As Private Principal Investigator (PPI) for the Center for U.S. Rural Cultures Studies — while residing in Sea Ranch, California — I conceived, prepared, and conducted the Center’s research, creative projects, and cultural work — from June 2018 to March 2020.
According to the University of Massachusetts, “A Principal Investigator [PI] is the primary individual responsible for the preparation, conduct, and administration of a research grant, cooperative agreement, training or public service project, contract, or other sponsored project in compliance with applicable laws and regulations and institutional policy governing the conduct of sponsored research.”
In contrast to University PI roles created by funding sources, The Center’s Private Principal Investigator (PPI) role was created and structured in field research practices.
